Look at all the good press HypnoBirthing is getting! Apparently the secret is out: HypnoBirthing is the way to go!
Dane County Kids - Baby by Hypnosis by Kim D.R. Dearth. Published November 2000. One of my clients describes her birth experience. (I was honored to be there too - wonderful, beautiful birth. The OB nurse was pregnant and attended my next class to prepare for her own birth).
The Janesville Gazette - Naturally Speaking by Shelly Birkelo. Published March 11, 2000. I was interviewed for this article, along with a couple of my clients. I attended Jessica and Derek's birth (photographed in the article). Wonderful first birth, mom received baby into her arms. She progressed so quickly, the doctor had to rush back from a black-tie affair with scrubs over her evening gown. I also attended Brenda's birth (interviewed in the article), another wonderful first birth. Brenda started with a home birth. She struggled a little bit at first, but once she got the hang of the relaxation, was so peaceful during surges we couldn't tell if she was sleeping through them. Some pre-eclampsia symptoms changed the birth plan to hospital and eventually C-section. Her continued use of HypnoBirthing breathing and relaxation allowed everything to progress calmly without any sense of a panicked medical crisis. They approached the situation clear-headed, asking good questions, and making thoughtful decisions.

American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis - Hypnosis to Facilitate Uncomplicated Birth by Lewis E Mehl-Madrona. Published April 2004. Highly technical research article - basic conclusion: "Having hypnosis was statistically, significantly associated with having fewer complicated deliveries."
South Florida Parenting Magazine - The (Re)Birth of a Better Way by Beverly Barna. Published April 2004. Interviews a practitioner and her clients. One mom describes the sensations of her painless birth as "something passing through me like a brief pulse."
Time Magazine - Birth Bliss by Amanda Bower. Published February 22, 2004. Author describes her experiences with HypnoBirthing. The doctor interviewed says that out of 200 HypnoBirthing patients, his C-section rate is 1% and no one has ever requested drugs.

BBC News - Why I Chose HypnoBirthing by Jane Elliot. Published July 20, 2002. Mom who started pregnancy terrified ends up with short (3 hour) labor with no drugs thanks to HypnoBirthing. "I could not have wished for anything better."
WebMD - Hypnosis in the Delivery Room. Published 2000. This article cracks me up, but unfortunately it's a pattern I've noticed all too often in the media. The beginning of the article is great: They interview a mom who has actually had the experience of birthing with hypnosis, and who gives it glowing reviews. She describes her own drug-free birth experience, in this case saying it was much better than a previous experience without hypnosis and with an epidural. The whole article is super positive for two pages, and then in the last paragraph they feel the need to include a quote from a so called "expert" who doesn't have any experience with HypnoBirthing and counsels couples that drugs are the only way to have a birth that's not "one of the most painful crisises the woman has to endure." So how would this "expert" explain the countless wonderful birth stories from HypnoBirthing moms (including the one in the article)? I just laugh and shake my head.
